ASH Meeting Lymphoma Biology

The second ASH Meeting on Lymphoma Biology will be held June 18-21, 2016, at the beautiful Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While you may have missed the abstract submission deadline, you should still consider attending. Here are some reasons why:

• This is a small meeting, which facilitates discussion of the latest lymphoma research in a relaxed, informal setting, designed so that all participants can attend all sessions.
• The meeting is an excellent opportunity for networking: Breakfasts, lunches, and a number of receptions are part of the agenda. Attendees in 2014 were from a range of countries, stages in career development, and academic backgrounds. Clinical, translational, and basic science researchers were all well-represented. Additionally, time for “Continuing Conversations” is built into the schedule to promote informal discussions and foster collaboration.
• The program planned will give you an excellent understanding of the current state of lymphoma research. A few of the topics to be covered include genetics, epigenetics, RNA metabolism, tumor heterogeneity, the role of the microenvironment, and B-cell receptor signaling. Experts will cover the role of these key basic science areas in lymphomagenesis as well as how they are being or could potentially be exploited therapeutically.
• Experts from whom you can anticipate hearing include Dr. Michael Stratton from the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, Dr. James Kochenderfer from the National Cancer Institute, and Dr. David Weinstock from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Visit the ASH website for a full listing of speakers.
• Registration is just $100 for Associate Members, students, and residents. Discounted room rates are available at the Broadmoor specifically for trainees, but you can also save money by staying just a short 10 minutes away at the Hilton DoubleTree hotel for a fee of $89 per night. ASH will provide shuttle service between the DoubleTree and the Broadmoor.
• If you have the opportunity, I recommend staying at The Broadmoor as it is the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in! This is a family-friendly place, so depending on your summer plans, consider making this a family weekend. If you are a golfer, there are three courses on site to choose from. Those of us who are not golfers can enjoy the salon and spa, tennis, a large and well-equipped fitness center, pools (yes, there are three), or just a scenic walk around the picturesque property. There are 10 restaurants plus 10 cafés and lounges to choose from for dinner, coffee, or a cocktail. I recommend a meal outdoors at Natural Epicurean.
• The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts warm, dry weather during mid-June in Colorado.
