Image Challenge: Bone Marrow Aspirate

Readers of TraineE-News  know that a recurring feature of the newsletter is a board-style question with an explanation and a link to a relevant article. We changed it up this time and published an image challenge.

What is the most common cytogenetic abnormality predicted by this bone marrow aspirate?

Answer

These abnormal eosinophils with basophilic inclusions ("eo-basos") have been associated with acute myeloid leukemia with the inversion 16 cytogenetic abnormality.1
