The ASH-Amos Institute for Medical Faculty Development Program Key Information
ASH has partnered with the Amos Institute for Medical Faculty Development to identify future leaders in hematology who reflect a wide breadth of lived experience to inspire and mentor others, advance biomedical sciences, and transform healthcare to improve health for all people. ASH-AIMFD awardees will be expected to serve as role models fors ucceeding generations of researchers.
Program Benefits
As part of the ASH - Amos Institute for Medical Faculty Development award, recipients will receive an annual stipend of up to $75,000, complemented by $30,000 to support research activities. They will also receive the support of a Scientific Advisory Group of Experts mentor, complimentary ASH membership, and a stipend to support attendance at the ASH and AIMFD annual meetings for the award's four years.
Eligibility Requirements
At the time of application, the applicant must:
- Be a US citizen, permanent residents, or granted DACA status;
- Have excelled in their education and training;
- Be completing or have completed formal clinical training if an MD;
- Be committed to an academic career;
- Be able to spend at least 70% of time engaged in research activities (50% in the case of surgeons);
- Be prepared to devote four consecutive years to research;
- Be able to articulate how their identity, lived experience, background, or research interests have positioned them to contribute to the goals of the program; and
- Be committed to serving as a role model to succeeding classes of medical faculty researchers and/or to improving the health status of the underserved.

Program Mentorship
ASH-AIMFD applicants are responsible for identifying a mentor at their institutions who will work with them and provide both research and career guidance. Additionally, the recipient's mentor is expected to attend the AIMFD annual meeting for the first two years of the grant, with travel costs reimbursed.
Award recipients are also assigned a Scientific Advisory Group of Experts mentor who will follow their progress throughout the award term and provide additional guidance.

ASH Amos Institute for Faculty Development and HIP Fellow Award Application Eligibility
Applicants may submit applications to both the HIP Fellow Award and the ASH-Amos Institute for Medical Faculty Development Award (ASH-AIMFD) if they deem themselves eligible for both awards. If an applicant is offered both awards, they can complete their first year of research with the HIP Fellow Award program (June 2024 – June 2025) and begin research under ASH-AIMFD beginning in July 2026.
You should consider applying for ASH-Amos INSTITUTE FOR Medical Faculty Development AWARD if:
- You already have a significant amount of research experience and preliminary data, and can benefit from four years of mentored research training
- You will have completed the clinical portion of your fellowship before the start of the award
- You are an Assistant Professor
You should consider applying for the HIP Fellow Award if:
- You are still in fellowship training
- You have limited to no research experience
- You still have the clinical portion of your fellowship to complete
