Take Action in Support of Federal Research Funding

Prior to the Senate adjourning for its August recess, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved its version of the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS) Appropriations bill, which would provide National Institutes of Health (NIH) with a $1.8 billion increase to $48.9 billion in fiscal year (FY) 2025. This 4% increase for NIH compares to flat funding in the version of the bill proposed in July by the House Appropriations Committee.

With movement on spending bills stalled and the start of FY 2025 quickly approaching, Congress will be forced to pass a temporary continuing resolution (CR) that extends current federal agency and program funding in order to avert a government shutdown. Although details of a CR have yet to be finalized, given the November elections there is widespread sentiment s to have a CR extend into at least early December in order to provide time to finalize a FY 2025 funding package.

ASH is once again sponsoring the annual Rally for Medical Research Hill Day, which is taking place in Washington on September 19. Participants from more than 350 partnering organizations will be meeting with House and Senate offices to call on our nation’s policymakers to make funding for the NIH a priority and raise awareness about the importance of continued investment in scientific research.

You can join theses voices in support of medical research by entering your information below and sending a message to your elected officials about the importance of sustained funding for NIH and other federal health programs.
