Support the Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act
The COVID-19 pandemic has placed considerable strain on America’s healthcare workforce, resulting in a serious shortage of physicians and highlighting the already dwindling healthcare workforce in the U.S. Throughout the crisis, certain areas of the country have had to recall retired physicians, expand physician practice areas, and modify out-of-state licensing laws. ASH joins many others in the physician community in supporting the Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act (H.R. 2255/S. 1024) which seeks to address this growing problem. The bipartisan legislation would allow the government to recapture 15,000 unused employment-based physician immigrant visas, bolster the U.S. healthcare workforce, and bring relief to current frontline providers helping to ensure that patients have the care they deserve. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more critical than ever to ensure that America fully utilizes its immigration system to help meet the nation’s growing health care needs.
