Contact Your Senators by June 8 to Urge Support for SCD Programs
Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Tim Scott (R-SC), long-standing champions for individuals with sickle cell disease (SCD), are asking their colleagues in the U.S. Senate to join them in sending a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee in support of funding for SCD programs within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The letter requests a funding level of $25 million for the CDC Sickle Cell Data Collection program, a population-based system which collects and analyzes longitudinal data about people living in the U.S. with SCD, and $7.205 million for the HRSA Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Demonstration program, which funds regional SCD grants that support SCD providers in an effort to increase access to high quality, coordinated, comprehensive care for people with SCD.
ASH has worked closely with Senators Booker and Scott and supports their efforts to increase funding for CDC and HRSA SCD programs.
Please click below to send a message to your Senators asking them to support these important programs by signing Senator Booker’s and Senator Scott’s “Dear Colleague” letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee. The deadline for Senators to sign the letter is June 8, 2021.
