Robert Negrin, MD, Begins Term as 2026 ASH President

(WASHINGTON, Jan. 6, 2026) — Robert Negrin, MD, professor of medicine at Stanford University, will serve as president of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) for a year-long term through December 2026.

Dr. Negrin is a physician-scientist who has made significant research contributions in the areas of hematopoietic cell transplantation, cellular immunology, and immune regulation research. He is professor of medicine at Stanford University and was previously chief of the division of blood and marrow transplantation. He completed his internal medicine residency and hematology fellowship at Stanford University.

“ASH has been critical to my career, and I am proud to have the privilege and responsibility to serve this organization at a time when science is facing extraordinary challenges,” said Dr. Negrin. “I look forward to supporting our members, advocating for this community, and continuing to fight for hematology.”

Under his leadership, ASH will continue to champion advocacy efforts around the Fight4Hematology, which aims to protect hematology research and advances in patient care in the face of federal actions that threaten federal research funding and access to care.

Dr. Negrin is passionate about nurturing the careers of young hematologists and is a vocal champion of programs like ASH’s Hematology Inclusion Pathway (HIP), a comprehensive 13-year longitudinal career pathway of awards that strives to ensure hematology reflects and serves the world we live in, and ASH’s Scholar Award, which supports the careers of hematologists between training and independent investigative work.

“Hematology brings the world of science and medicine together, and ASH is the conduit for this community,” said Dr. Negrin. “We have to make sure we support our youngest and most vulnerable members, because we cannot afford to lose a generation of hematologists and researchers due to funding uncertainty.”

Dr. Negrin has been a member of ASH for 33 years and has served in various leadership roles. He was the inaugural editor-in-chief of Blood Advances and an associate editor of Blood. He has served as an ad hoc member of the Executive Committee and as chair of the Scientific Committee on Transplant Biology and Cellular Therapies.
