ASH Launches Blood Health Information Hub
New resource aims to counter misinformation and misconceptions by offering vetted, credible and trustworthy information on blood disorders
(WASHINGTON, Oct. 24, 2025) – The American Society of Hematology (ASH) launched the Blood Health Information Hub, a new resource that provides accurate, reliable, and trustworthy information on topics relevant to hematology for patients and the public.
“As patients turn to online sources for information on medical conditions, including hematologic conditions, health misinformation and disinformation can spread quickly,” said Belinda R. Avalos, MD, ASH president. “As the world’s largest professional hematology society and a science-based organization, ASH is committed to providing clear and reliable information on blood diseases.”
The Blood Health Information Hub is part of the Society’s resources to educate the public about common blood diseases, and includes six initial topics. Each topic has been reviewed by a hematologist for accuracy. The topics cover:
- Blood clot risk with air travel
- Blood clot risk with birth control
- Blood transfusions to delay aging
- Blood type and COVID-19 risk
- Iron deficiency testing during blood donation
- Sickle cell trait and the safety of playing sports
“Millions of people live with blood disorders and ASH is proactively providing accurate and trustworthy information to address common blood-related health topics and questions in an accessible way to help combat the spread of misinformation online,” said Surbhi Sidana, MD, chair of the ASH Committee on Communications and associate professor of medicine at Stanford University. “Patients, caregivers, and reporters alike can trust that the information they find on the Hub is legitimate and grounded in the latest science.”
The Blood Health Information Hub is available at hematology.org/BHIH. This resource has been added to ASH’s Patient Information Section with information on common blood disorders, how to talk to your doctor, and more. Suggestions for additional topics may be submitted to [email protected].
