Stephanie Lee, MD, MPH, Begins Term as 2020 ASH President
(WASHINGTON, Jan. 10, 2020) – Stephanie Lee, MD, MPH, a highly regarded expert in graft-versus-host disease as well as blood and bone marrow diseases, will serve as president of the American Society of Hematology (ASH) for a year-long term through December 2020.
Dr. Lee is a member and associate director of the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, where she also holds the David and Patricia Giuliani/Oliver Press Endowed Chair in Cancer Research. Dr. Lee is also a professor at the University of Washington.
“My time as part of ASH’s Executive Committee has prepared me to be a leader for the Society,” said Dr. Lee. “As ASH president, I hope to advance ASH’s priorities aimed at translating research discoveries into new therapies and integrating what we know about precision medicine to tailor treatments for those with hematologic conditions, ensuring people get the right treatment at the right time. I also plan to nurture ongoing successful activities and advocate for new programs, including supporting the next generation of hematologists. I look forward to encouraging my fellow hematologists to get involved in volunteer activities and become active members of ASH. Engaging with other ASH volunteers and staff to support research, clinical care, education, training, and advocacy in our field has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career, and I want others to share this experience.”
Dr. Lee has been a member of ASH for 25 years and an ASH volunteer for 20 years. Prior to her election as President, Dr. Lee served the Society as Councilor, Secretary and chair of the Scholar Award Program Study Section. She has also participated in many educational and career development programs.
