Treating Fairly

ASH welcomes the new Treating Fairly initiative. This pilot program is modeled after the highly successful Choosing Wisely initiative and is led by the Subcommittee on Stewardship and Systems-Based Hematology along with the support of the Health Equity Task Force.

As done for Choosing Wisely, we invite ASH members at large to share ideas and topics for the Treating Fairly initiative. Topics and/or ideas submitted for nomination will be evaluated for inclusion into a list of focus areas to highlight and promote quality improvement projects that alleviate healthcare inequities in hematologic care.

Treating Fairly is defined as providing equitable care to all patients. This involves ensuring that every individual receives the same high standard of care, regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or socioeconomic status. Our commitment to fairness involves recognizing and addressing the unique needs and challenges faced by different groups. By doing so, we aim to eliminate disparities in healthcare outcomes by ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and support they need to achieve optimal health.
