| 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. | Educational Research Design in Hematology This session will focus on the most efficient and useful process and tools to create an educational research project. The session will begin with the development and refining of the educational research question and hypothesis and then articulate strategies for compiling a study sample and recruiting participants. Faculty will discuss benefits and challenges of different study designs and explore outcome measurement. |
| 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. | Addressing Potential Pitfalls of Medical Education Research Design: Encouraging Collaboration Medical educators often face numerous challenges when designing a medical education research project, including working with a small population size or "N." As project managers, educators must stimulate collaboration among the people involved in the project to address challenges and increase performance of design teams. This session will focus on various design models that address different design situations and challenges. |

| 11:15 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. | Qualitative Methods in Medical Education Research Small sample sizes in medical education lead to an emphasis on qualitative over quantitative methods in research. This session will review the techniques that can be used in collecting qualitative information (surveys, focus groups, interviews) and key approaches to assembling and analyzing qualitative data. |

| 1:15 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. | Small Group Session 1: Project Introduction Participants will receive feedback on their individual scholarly project proposals concerning feasibility, evaluation, methods, statistical analysis, and other factors. Facilitators and barriers to performing scholarly work in medical education will be taken into account. |

| 3:45 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. | Wake Up to Active Learning! This session will introduce valuable principles of team-based learning (TBL) and just-in-time teaching. Participants will participate in TBL and discuss how to incorporate active learning into their own teaching sessions. |

| 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. | Teaching Portfolio: Why, What, How, and Who A teaching portfolio is the mechanism through which an educator can document his/her educational contributions at the local, regional, and national levels. Compilation of a portfolio is a best practice for medical educators as it is invaluable when seeking promotion or negotiating job responsibilities. |
| 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. | Promotion as a Hematology Educator This session will feature the stories of MEI faculty who have successfully secured promotion. Faculty will discuss balancing educational, clinical, and scholarly activities as well as how they have navigated promotion and tenure processes in their institutions. |

| 10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. | Strategies for Program Evaluation Evaluation of trainees, faculty, and programs is necessary to ensure outcomes are being met. This session will address the options for assessment, aside from multiple-choice tests. It will also address how to meaningfully provide feedback to trainees based on the results of assessments, with the goal of behavior change in mind. |
| 12:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. | Lunch and Small Group Session 2 This small group discussion will continue the provision of feedback on participants’ scholarly projects. The session will also allow for a review of participants’ CVs or teaching portfolios vis-à-vis preparation for advancement to a new role or promotion. |

| 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. | Smaller May be Better: Small Group Instruction In this session, participants will learn strategies to maximize small group teaching time by ensuring participation, rightsizing learning objectives, and deploying effective evaluation tools. |

| 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. | Using Technology in Medical Education Participants will rotate through hands-on learning stations that will provide skills development in creating digital texts, polling using free audience response systems, and new techniques for digitally capturing teaching content. |
| 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. | Teaching the Adult Learner Adult learning theory encompasses the basic concepts of behavioral change and experience. This workshop will include the different cognitive aspects of adult learning specific to medical education. |
| 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. | Small Group Session 3 Participants will have the opportunity to solicit final feedback on their scholarly projects. |
| 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. | Working Lunch: Mentoring and Coaching in Hematology Faculty will address best practices in getting the most out of a mentoring relationship with a more senior faculty member. How to become a good mentor for more junior faculty members and trainees will also be discussed. The session will involve a presentation of general principles, followed by case studies to discuss opportunities and problems that can arise with mentors or mentees. |
