Cosponsor the Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act

ASH has been working with congressional sickle cell disease (SCD) champions on bipartisan legislation to improve care for individuals with SCD. The Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act (H.R. 1672/S. 996) authorizes the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to create a demonstration program to improve preventive and primary outpatient care for individuals living with SCD who are enrolled in Medicaid.

Today, too many individuals living with SCD are not under the care of specialists or primary care physicians that understand the disease and have the tools to effectively treat those affected. This legislation aims to ensure that individuals with SCD have better access to comprehensive, high quality outpatient care, including recommended clinical, mental health, ancillary, and support services.
