Special Initiatives at ASH

In line with our mission of supporting the future of hematology through research, education, patient care, and professional networking, ASH is committed to a range of special initiatives. From advocating for medical research funding, to leading the way in sickle cell disease care and promoting inclusion in career pathways, ASH is proud to raise the bar for excellence in the field.

ASH is fighting for hematology in the face of executive orders and other federal actions that threaten research and patients care. Head to the Action Hub to for updates and easy ways to get involved.

As the world’s largest professional society of clinicians and scientists dedicated to conquering blood diseases, ASH seeks to expand the availability of hematologic care while promoting the highest standards of excellence in hematology research, training, and practice.

The following ASH programs are designed specifically for hematologists working and residing outside of the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Many of the Society's other awards and training programs are also open to international participants.

The ASH Center for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Initiatives streamlines the efforts of global stakeholders to enhance access to care, prioritize research, and support action around SCD.

Through a multifaceted approach, ASH aims to improve the quality of care for individuals with the Duffy-null blood type plus a lower absolute neutrophil count.

Improving the quality of care for individuals impacted by iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anemia is an ASH priority. Explore the society's efforts related to iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia and check back often for additional materials and resources.

The increasingly widespread use of genome sequencing and genomic profiling has significantly improved the diagnoses and treatment of hematologic diseases by identifying unique variants that can be targeted with gene-based targeted therapeutic approaches including immunotherapies.

Applying the principles of precision medicine to hematologic diseases is a priority for ASH.
