An Unprecedented Investment
An Unprecedented Investment
Since 2025, ASH has more than doubled its level of support for awards, career development opportunities, and mentorship programs as part of the #Fight4Hematology campaign. This unprecedented investment of $25 million to date into hematology research awards – above and beyond ASH’s traditional funding levels – brings ASH’s total award funding across 2025-2026 to nearly $50 million, supporting 3,500+ awards.
Making an Impact
Making an Impact
ASH has fostered and empowered a diverse new generation of leaders in hematology for more than 20 years.

The program provides longitudinal support and encourages recipients to stay on the pathway and apply for progressive awards with the anticipated outcome of increased likelihood of retention in the field.
Of the 77 individuals who have received two or more awards, 25 have received progressive awards in hematology extending beyond medical school. This number is expected to increase as more recipients matriculate along the pathway.

Alumni of the program remain deeply engaged in ASH through volunteer leadership.
Forty-five alumni have served in 353 unique volunteer leadership roles within ASH, ranging from junior reviewers in an ASH study section and contributing editors for ASH publications, to standing committee members and chairs, to serving on ASH’s governing body, the ASH Executive Committee.

Dr. Laura Michaelis interviews Dr. Rayne Rouce about her work with children as a pediatric hematologist/oncologist, in the lab, her work with advocacy and promoting diversity in healthcare, and her passion for music that has led to a rap career inspiring youth.
2018 ASH President Dr. Alexis Thompson has a conversation with Dr. Melody Smith about Dr. Smith's experience navigating the ASH career development and leadership pathways to help inspire aspiring hematologists and inform them of all the resources available through ASH.
