New Leadership Elected to the American Society of Hematology
(WASHINGTON, October 26, 2026) – The American Society of Hematology (ASH), the world’s largest professional society focused on conquering blood diseases worldwide, announced the election of four new members to its Executive Committee for terms starting after the 2026 ASH Annual Meeting, December 12-15, 2026, in New Orleans.
Wendy Stock, MD, will serve a one-year term as vice president followed by successive terms as president-elect and president. Christopher Flowers, MD, MS, will serve a four-year term as treasurer, Alison Walker, MD, MPH, MBA, will serve a four-year term as councillor, and Hideaki Nakajima, MD, PhD, will serve a four-year term as international councillor.
“Drs. Stock, Flowers, Walker, and Nakajima are dedicated to advancing hematology through their commitment to ASH and will bring their unique viewpoints to the organization at a time of unprecedented scientific challenges and opportunities,” said 2026 ASH President Robert S. Negrin. “With their input, ASH will continue to fight for its members and their patients.”
Dr. Stock, incoming vice president, is director of the Adolescent and Young Adult Blood Cancer Clinic and Anjuli Seth Nayak professor of medicine at the University of Chicago. “Hematology has entered an era of tremendous opportunity for rapid discovery, data integration, and therapeutic innovation, yet remains threatened by significant cutbacks to, and skepticism of, funding for scientific discovery,” said Dr. Stock. “I will continue to be a strong advocate for the field both nationally and internationally to sustain the growth and promise of hematology and its practitioners.”

His clinical expertise is in clinical and outcomes research for lymphoma. An ASH member since 2002, Dr. Flowers served in various roles, including councillor, chair of the Committee on Advancing Excellence and Population Health, and co-director of the Clinical Research Training Institute. Dr. Flowers is the inaugural recipient of the ASH-AMFDP award and has served as a champion of and mentor within the Hematology Inclusion Pathway.
Dr. Walker, incoming councillor, is chief of the Medical Oncology Service and the assistant chief medical officer at Moffitt Cancer Center, and professor of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida. Her research has explored the development of novel targeted therapies for patients with acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. An ASH member since 2006, she has served as an ad hoc member of the ASH Executive Committee, chair of the Committee on Advancing Excellence and Population Health, and faculty of the Clinical Training Research Institute.
Dr. Nakajima, incoming international councillor, is deputy president of Yokohama City University and professor/chairman of the Department of Stem Cell and Immune Regulation at Yokohama City University Graduate School of Medicine. His research focuses on the regulation of hematopoietic stem cells and the molecular mechanisms of myeloid malignancies. An ASH member since 1995, he has served on the International Members Committee, ASH Global Research Award Subcommittee, and Task Force on International Associate Membership, and he has been a liaison of Awards Committee and associate editor of Blood Japanese Edition. He has also participated in various study sections.
