ASH HONORS (Hematology Opportunities for the Next Generation of Research Scientists) Award

The ASH HONORS Award contributes to the development of the next generation of hematologists by providing research funding for talented medical students and residents who have about 12 months remaining in their program when the award begins (July 1). It is a flexible research experience conducted over a span of two to 12 months.

In addition to a $5,000 honorarium to support work on a hematology-related research project, program participants receive a $1,000 travel allowance each year for two years to attend the ASH annual meeting and are encouraged to continue research careers in hematology beyond medical school and residency. Please be aware that if you choose to conduct your research at an institution other than your home institution, your project may be subject to a "visiting researcher fee." Please discuss this potential fee with your research mentor so that you are informed and to ensure that an agreed upon plan is in place to cover this potential fee.

At the ASH annual meeting, award recipients attend an orientation breakfast with members of the ASH Committee on Training and Trainee Council who are available to discuss specific areas of research and to provide recommendations on annual meeting sessions, events, abstracts, and/or posters related to the awardees’ areas of interest. Awardees are also invited to attend the Career Development Awards Reception on Monday evening.
