A Cry for Acceptance

All my life,
I have fought
I have tried to be one with the lot.
All my life,
I have loved God
but I am told He believes I am flawed.

(I have sinned, but why has it not felt wrong?)

All my life,
I have been told that I am ill
in the eyes of the healer,
the makers of the laws of our land,
in the eyes of those, to whom
I had only love to give
but none to receive.

(Why can you not accept me?)

I was different,
but I tried to hide it.
I was different,
but I did not understand it.
I was hurting,
but I didn’t say.
I needed your help,
but you were not there.
