ASH Leads Group Letter Improving Access to Transfusion Care for Hospice Patients Act

In a September 18, 2026, letter, a coalition including the American Society of Hematology supports the Improving Access to Transfusion Care for Hospice Patients Act (S. 1936/H.R. 9703), which would establish a demonstration program providing separate Medicare payments for palliative blood transfusions outside the hospice bundled payment. The coalition emphasizes that this change would help patients with blood cancers and other serious blood disorders access hospice services while continuing symptom-relieving transfusions that support comfort and quality of life.
