ASH Minority Recruitment Initiative Fund
The Minority Medical Student Award Program has been an amazing opportunity. It allowed me to return to the blood bank where my pursuit of medicine was solidified, not as a lab technician, but as a medical student performing research in investigating the efficacy of one of the newer protocols.
Diversification in the health care workforce increases access to care and the quality of the medical experience for minority patients. Yet, despite an increasing recognition of the need for a diverse biomedical research workforce, many obstacles still impede the successful recruitment and retention of minorities in the field of hematology.
The ASH Minority Recruitment Initiative promotes increased diversity in the hematology workforce through multiple awards designed to support both early-career trainees and established hematologists. Through these programs, the Society aims to increase minority participation in biomedical research and representation on medical school faculties and in clinical hematology practices.
