Tell Your Elected Officials Protect Access to Health Care

Legislation has been introduced, and laws have been passed, in several states that would impede the ability of health care professionals across the country, including hematologists, to provide medical care and counsel according to their training and ethical obligations to their patients.

In September 2021, ASH joined 38 medical organizations in endorsing a statement led by the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Osteopathic Association, and the American Psychiatric Association, opposing Texas SB8. The statement stresses the groups’ opposition to any laws and regulations that interfere in the confidential relationship between a patient and their physician, noting that “this new law will endanger patients and clinicians, putting physicians who provide necessary medical care, or even offer evidence-based information, at risk, by allowing private citizens to interfere in health decision making.”

Please take a moment to enter your information below and tell your federal and state elected officials that you oppose harmful restrictions and urge them to prioritize policies that improve health care for communities in your state. We encourage you to add to the draft letter and share a personal perspective demonstrating the urgent need to protect access to care.
