Committee Mandate

The Small Meetings Oversight Subcommittee, a subcommittee of the Committee on Educational Affairs, identifies the co-chairs, then reviews and provides input on the program topics and speakers proposed by the co-chairs for the domestic and international Highlights of ASH, the Consultative Hematology Course, and any additional “small meetings” that are developed.  The Small Meetings Oversight Subcommittee ensures that the programs are high-quality with evidence-based content, and that they include diverse faculties and topics which target the needs of the program audiences.  After review by the Small Meetings Oversight Subcommittee, the proposed program topics and speakers are submitted to the Executive Committee for approval.

The Small Meetings Oversight Subcommittee is also responsible for approving topics and speakers in all webinars that are produced under the auspices of the Committee on Educational Affairs.  After approval by the Small Meetings Oversight Subcommittee, the proposed webinar topics and speakers are submitted to the Officers for their approval.

A major part of the Small Meetings Oversight Subcommittee’s responsibility is to evaluate the content and quality of small meetings.  Other functions include reviewing feedback from attendees and the final financial reports from both meetings, and considering options for the development, expansion, or reduction of ASH’s inventory of small meetings.

The membership of the Small Meetings Oversight Subcommittee includes:

  • Chair (an individual with expertise in ASH’s small educational meetings; nominated by Chair of the Committee on Educational Affairs) – 2 year term
  • 1 current or former Program Planning Committee Member of the ASH Meeting on Hematologic Malignancies – 1 year term
  • 1 former chair of Highlights of ASH – 3 year term
  • Past President – 1 year term
  • Current Liaison from the Committee on Practice to the Committee on Educational Affairs – term congruent with service on parent committee
  • 2 current members of the Committee on Educational Affairs – term congruent with service on parent committee
  • 1 ad hoc member appointed based on expertise – 3 year term

Members of the Small Meetings Oversight Subcommittee are required to participate in conference calls and email discussions and to attend up to two meetings per year: one during the ASH annual meeting and another at a designated time/location if necessary.
