Many patients undergoing treatment for blood diseases and disorders have had their care disrupted by Hurricane Katrina. If you were receiving treatment from a hematologist or hematologist/oncologist and you are unable to contact your doctor or you have relocated to a new area, ASH can help connect you with a health care provider.
ASH’s Find a Hematologist database allows you to search for hematologists by name, location, or disease type (“Clinical Interests”). You can contact these doctors’ offices directly to make arrangements to receive care.
In addition, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is providing an around-the-clock telephone medical consultation service for all patients affected by Hurricane Katrina. Patients may call 1-866-887-2842 to receive advice about a variety of medical problems. Representatives can also assist patients who were participating in clinical trials at the time of the storm.
