National Institute on Aging and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Publish RFA on Anemia in the Elderly
On August 12, 2005, the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) published a Request for Application (RFA) on Anemia in the Elderly. The RFA supports new applications for investigator-initiated research grants to explore the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical aspects (diagnosis, treatment, and prevention) of anemia in the elderly. In 2004, ASH-sponsored a Workshop on the Clinical Implications of Anemia in the Elderly. This year, ASH’s Quality of Care Subcommittee will sponsor a special symposium on anemia and the elderly during the ASH annual meeting in New Orleans on Saturday, December 3, from 2:00-3:45 p.m. Representatives from the NIA and the NHLBI will also be available to answer questions about the RFA at the NIH booth in the ASH exhibit hall.
Letters of intent are due December 30, 2005; applications must be completed by January 20, 2006. The total amount to be awarded is $2.5 million, and the anticipated number of awards is four to eight. More information about the RFA is available on the NIH Web site.
