Registration is now open!

During this one-and-a-half-day educational event, State-of-the-Art Symposium (SAS) attendees will enjoy ample time to network at the welcome reception on Friday and at breakfast and lunch on Saturday. Attendees will also receive a Program Book containing the speaker slide presentations, a DVD of the event, and complimentary CME processing.

The educational sessions will be led by world-renowned speakers and feature a variety of topics. The sessions will be followed by lively panel discussions.

The American Society of Hematology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The American Society of Hematology designates this educational activity for a maximum of 10.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Physicians not licensed in the U.S. who participate in this CME activity are also eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.

Educational Objectives

At the completion of the symposium, participants should be able to:

  • Understand newer concepts of stem cell biology.
  • Be familiar with the revised WHO classification for myeloid malignancies.
  • Identify causes of stem cell hypoplasia and understand the relationship between aplastic anemia, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, and its associated thrombotic complications.
  • Understand the management of different myelodysplastic syndromes.
  • Review the pathogenesis and newer therapies for the myeloproliferative disorders.
  • Be familiar with newer targeted therapies for chronic myelogenous leukemia and acute myelogenous leukemia.
  • Explain the prognostic groups of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and risk-adapted therapies.
  • Identify novel approaches to therapy for the non-Hodgkin lymphomas.

A limited number of rooms are available for 2008 SAS attendees at the Palmer House Hilton. The Palmer House is in the heart of Chicago's business and entertainment district. The Art Institute of Chicago, Grant Park, Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, and theaters are all within walking distance. The Palmer House is located approximately 25 miles from the Chicago O'Hare International Airport and 10 miles from the Chicago Midway International Airport.

1 Non-member residents and fellows must provide an original letter on their institution’s letterhead, signed by a training program director, stating that the registrant is enrolled in a training program.
