50th Anniversary Brochure: Conquering Blood Diseases – From Research to Patient Care
To mark ASH's golden anniversary and publicly reflect on the rich history of hematology, the Society is publishing a brochure designed for hematologists to enjoy and share with patients, students, legislators, and the general public. This retrospective publication will focus on the therapeutic advances in blood diseases made over the last 50 years and include milestones that have changed the face of medicine and patient care.
Abstracts Book
The Abstracts Book will be mailed to all ASH members, Blood subscribers, and early-bird and advance registrants starting in mid-November. Additional copies of the Abstracts Book may be ordered (see registration form available August 5) or purchased on site for $65 per copy for members and $95 per copy for non-members. (ASH will not be responsible for the shipment of books obtained on site.)
Please Note: Effective this year, the Abstracts Book does not contain the final annual meeting program. The final program will be available online in early November and attendees are encouraged to use the online meeting scheduler.
Abstracts Online/Program Planner
Check back to this site in early November for the full text of the annual meeting abstracts. The online program will allow you to search the annual meeting program and generate your own personal annual meeting schedule, which can be printed or downloaded to a PDA (both Palm® and Window devices).

This CD-ROM includes the full text of all annual meeting abstracts, has a search capability allowing users to find and mark presentations of interest, and provides the ability to create and save a personalized meeting schedule. A copy of the Annual Meeting Abstracts on CD-ROM will be mailed to advance meeting registrants with their meeting badges in mid-November.Annual Meeting Notebook
This publication is designed for use on Saturday and Sunday during the meeting and includes summaries of the Education Program sessions and the invited abstracts from the Scientific Committee sessions in a compact, easy-to-carry format with pages for note-taking. The dates, times, and locations for these sessions are also conveniently provided in an at-a-glance grid.

ASH will offer several sessions from the annual meeting on DVD, which will provide audio recordings and color reproductions of PowerPoint® slides from presentations. Sessions available on DVD include:
- All Education Sessions
- Presidential Symposium

ASH News Daily
ASH's popular on-site daily newspaper, ASH News Daily, will be available to attendees each day. Four separate issues of ASH News Daily, covering the four days of the 2008 ASH Annual Meeting, feature informative articles on a wide range of Education and Scientific Program sessions and abstract presentations written by distinguished ASH members. Each issue of ASH News Daily will highlight the day's sessions and events and provide information about the city of San Francisco. This publication is distributed throughout the Moscone Center, will be made available on all of the shuttle buses, and will be hand-delivered to the rooms of meeting attendees at select members-only hotels. In addition, the articles are posted to the ASH Web site daily during the meeting. Once again this year, select foreign translations of ASH News Daily will also be available; please contact Karen Learner, Managing Editor, for more information.
American Society of Hematology Self-Assessment Program (ASH-SAP)
The ASH-SAP is a high-quality, CME-accredited educational product offering the latest advancements in the field of pediatric and adult hematology for hematologists, oncologists, hematology-oncology fellows, internists, and pediatricians. The ASH-SAP is the premier review resource in hematology, providing board preparation, recertification preparation, and 50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
The third edition of the ASH-SAP includes a printed textbook and a self-assessment test composed of 224 case-based, multiple-choice questions and critiques. Full-color images are included in both the text and the question book. A companion Web site reflects the same information contained in the printed text and adds an interactive element to the self-assessment, allowing users to move back and forth between questions and critiques, chapter text, and illustrative slides.
The ASH-SAP may be purchased on site at the ASH booth in the exhibit hall or the book sales counter in the registration area. Special discounts are available to ASH members and fellows. ASH is pleased to provide complimentary copies of the ASH-SAP to all U.S. and Canadian fellows in hematology, hematology/oncology, pediatric hematology/oncology, transfusion medicine, hematology-pathology, and oncology programs to help them further their education. Complimentary copies must be ordered by your program director on your behalf. Please have your program director contact Joe Basso, ASH Training Manager, to receive a copy. This program is made possible by an educational grant from Amgen Oncology.
ASH-SAP With Maintenance of Certification Module (ASH-SAP/MOC)
The ASH-SAP has been approved by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) to provide 70 medical knowledge points toward recertification, and ASH is providing free copies of the ASH-SAP with the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) module to recertifying hematologists whose hematology certification expires between 2008 and 2010. Hematologists enrolled in ABIM's MOC program are provided access to the accompanying exam, which includes 168 questions in adult hematology. Users also earn 50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ upon completion of the program. If you will be recertifying in 2008, 2009, or 2010, please stop by the ASH booth in the exhibit hall and pick up the ASH-SAP/MOC order form to request your complimentary copy.
Hematology 2008
Hematology 2008, the ASH Education Program Book, will be distributed on site to registrants. Extra copies can be purchased on site for $75 per copy for members and $125 per copy for non-members. (ASH will not be responsible for the shipment of books obtained on site.)
New This Year! All registered annual meeting attendees will receive the 50th Anniversary Reviews, a companion publication to Hematology 2008. These review articles, originally published individually in Blood, the Society's scientific journal, are reproduced in this volume as a complete set and cover some of the most remarkable scientific findings in hematology during the last half century.
Program Book
This book contains the master schedule and complete annual meeting program, including detailed information for the general and special-interest sessions, trainee activities, education and scientific program, oral and poster sessions, and ticketed events. A listing of exhibitors and Friday Satellite Symposia are also included. Please note that, for the first time, the Abstracts Book will not contain program information for the meeting; therefore, the Program Book will be especially useful for navigating your way through the meeting.
Presentations From ASH's Small-Venue Meetings
In 2004, ASH launched State-of-the-Art Symposia (SAS), followed by Highlights of ASH® in 2006. These smaller, clinically-focused meetings offer the same high-quality educational and scientific content for which the ASH annual meeting is known, while allowing for networking and discussion in a more intimate atmosphere.
If you've missed one of these meetings, copies of SAS and Highlights of ASH presentations will be available in DVD format and as printed program books at the ASH booth and book sales counter. Pick up a copy while supplies last, or purchase them from the online ASH Store.
Don’t want to wait until December to earn CME? Attend the upcoming SAS, which will be held in Chicago, September 12-13, 2008. This symposium will feature leading hematology experts exploring the latest research and treatment options for both benign and malignant hematologic conditions with a special focus on myelodysplasia and myeloproliferative diseases. Topics will include myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative diseases, leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, anemia, stem cell biology, and changes to the World Health Organization’s classification of malignancies and cytopenias. Advance registration is now open.
Webcast
A webcast of several of this year's annual meeting sessions will be available after the meeting. Users will be able to hear audio recordings of the presentations while viewing associated color slides. Sessions that will be captured for the webcast are as follows:
- Presidential Symposium
- Ham-Wasserman Lecture
- E. Donnall Thomas Lecture
- ASH/EHA Plenary Forum
- Pioneers in Hematology Sessions
- Trainee Simultaneous Didactic Sessions
- Junior-Faculty Development: How to Get a Grant
