Registration Categories
Applications for Active or International membership received between now and the meeting will not be processed in time for applicants to receive status as an ASH member at the 2007 annual meeting. Please consider applying to become a member in time for the 2008 annual meeting.
Associate membership applications, which are reviewed on a rolling basis, must be received by November 7, 2007, in order to be eligible for reduced member meeting rates. Applicants will be billed for their 2007 membership dues ($50) immediately upon approval. Dues must be paid in full in order to qualify for the Associate member meeting registration rate. Membership applications will not be processed at the Membership Desk during the meeting.
ASH Active Member
Any person with a doctoral degree or its equivalent, who is a permanent resident of any North American country (Canada, United States, and Mexico), and who has manifested a continuous interest in any discipline important to hematology as evidenced by work in the field, original contributions, and attendance at meetings concerning hematology, is eligible for Active membership. Applicants who file an official application form and who are sponsored by a member of ASH will become members upon election by a majority vote of the Executive Committee. In addition, the Executive Committee may, in special circumstances, elect as Active members by majority vote persons who do not meet all of the eligibility requirements set forth above. Active membership applications are voted on twice per year, in April and December. Applications must be received by either March 1 or August 1; applications received after these deadlines will not be reviewed until the next application cycle. Applications received by the August 1 deadline will not be approved prior to the annual meeting. They will be reviewed by ASH’s Executive Committee during the annual meeting and memberships will begin the following January.
ASH International Member
Individuals who have made a contribution to the field of hematology and who do not reside in a North American country may be elected to International membership upon the recommendation of the Executive Committee. Applicants who file an official application form and who are sponsored by a member of ASH will become members upon election by a majority vote of the Executive Committee. International membership applications are voted on twice per year, in April and December. Applications must be received by either March 1 or August 1; applications received after these deadlines will not be reviewed until the next application cycle.
ASH Associate Member
Post-doctoral fellows with an MD or equivalent medical degree who reside in Canada, Mexico, or the U.S. and are in approved hematology or oncology training programs are eligible for Associate membership. The Associate membership concludes after the completion of the fellowship (maximum of four years). Students who have received a PhD degree and are in a post-doctoral position or a training program in a hematology-related field are also eligible to be Associate members for the first fours years after the degree has been awarded. Subsequently, the Associate membership is automatically converted to the Society’s Active member status. Associate membership applications are reviewed on a continuous basis; shortly after a complete application is received, notification of the membership decision will be sent to the applicant.
ASH Honorary Member
Non-members active in the Society may be proposed for this distinction in recognition of outstanding contributions to any discipline of importance to hematology and are elected by a majority vote of the Executive Committee.
ASH Emeritus Member
Any member of the Society at age 65 or upon professional retirement, or any member who by reason of permanent disability or undue hardship has been rendered unable to continue Active membership, may request transfer to the status of Emeritus membership by written application to the Secretary of the Society.
Allied Health Professional
Individuals qualified for this category include medical technologists, nurses, physician assistants, and pharmacists. To register for this category, an individual will need to provide evidence of status as an allied health professional. This could be evidence of membership in another association, such as a nursing association, provision of an institutional identification card with the registrant’s name and professional title, or an original letter on department letterhead written by the director confirming the registrant’s status as an allied health professional. Individuals with an MD or PhD degree generally will not qualify for this category. Allied health professionals may register for the meeting online; however, they must pick up their name badges on site and must provide proof of status as an allied health professional at the special Allied Health Professional counter, which will be located in the registration area of the Georgia World Congress Center. Registrants who do not have proper identification on site will be charged the ASH non-member registration rate.
Spouse/Guest
Spouses and guests are welcome to register for the ASH annual meeting. Spouses and guests will receive a badge that will allow them access to the exhibit hall and all ASH-sponsored social events. This registration rate does not include entrance to the Education and Scientific Program sessions, and registrants will not receive the Program and Abstracts Book or the Education Program Book.
Non-Member in Training
Advance Registration Only!
Non-members in training who register after the Advance Registration deadline of November 7 or on site will be charged the ASH non-member rate of $625. Any resident or post-doctoral fellow with an MD or PhD in a recognized hematology or oncology training program, or medical graduate student, may register as a non-member in training. However, the $150 non-member in training rate will be honored only for those who register in advance. The registration deadline for this category is November 7; both registration and a verification letter must be submitted by this date to qualify for the reduced rate.
| New this year, trainees have the option of registering online for the non-member in training category. An important advantage to this option is the opportunity for these registrants to reserve a hotel room immediately after completing their online registration. |
To register online or by mail as a non-member in training, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Registration
Advance Registration opens on August 7. To register online, applicants should go to the ASH Web site. During the online process, the registrant will be asked to provide the following information:
- Program director’s name and contact information
- Name of the program that the individual is enrolled in
- Length (in years) of the program
- Program start date (month and year)
- Completion date of the program (month and year)
Once online registration is completed, an e-mail notification will be automatically sent to the program director regarding the verification of the applicant’s training status.
To register by mail, applicants should complete the advance registration form and submit it with their registration payment of $150 to:
American Society of Hematology
Attn: Meetings Department/Non-Member in Training
1900 M Street, NW, Suite 200
Washington, DC 20036
Fax copies will not be accepted.
For those registering by mail, ASH will send a confirmation letter to the applicant within two weeks (three weeks for international registrants).
Step 2: Verification Letter
All non-member-in-training applicants, whether registering online or by mail, must provide an original letter on the institution’s letterhead signed by a training program director confirming that the individual is a trainee. The letter must include all of the bulleted items in Step 1 above and include the school stamp. It should be mailed to ASH Headquarters at the address listed above.
If the program director’s letter is not received within 10 business days from the time that the individual registers online, the applicant’s meeting registration and housing reservation will be canceled.
All individuals will be officially registered for the meeting once ASH confirms the training status.
