Friday Satellite Symposia
Friday, December 7
ASH would like to thank the participating sponsors of this year’s Friday Satellite Symposia. ASH views the Friday Satellite Symposia as a strong example of a healthy partnership between the Society and the corporate community, research-based companies, nonprofit organizations, and others who play an important role in providing meeting attendees with quality educational programs.
The following are confirmed Friday Satellite Symposia as of May 2007. These symposia are not part of the official 2007 ASH Annual Meeting, and an ASH badge is not needed to attend them. Each symposium is planned solely by the sponsoring organization, which will send detailed information and invitations prior to the meeting.

Many physicians have never diagnosed or treated a
patient with PNH. Indeed for them, PNH represents
a section of a textbook and an interesting program at
ASH. However, there have been many recent advances
in both the diagnosis and management of this disease,
and hematologists and oncologists should have a
thorough knowledge of the ongoing clinical trials and
an appreciation of the issues involved in order to make
the best decisions for their patients.

Clinical Challenges with Hereditary
and Transfusion-Dependent Iron
Overload
This program is sponsored by Physicians’ Education
Resource and supported by Novartis Oncology.
6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Omni Hotel at CNN Center –
International Ballroom E-F
Speakers:

London, London, United Kingdom
- Roland Fischer, PhD, University Clinic Hamburg-
Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany
Iron-chelating agents are increasingly being used in
the first- and second-line treatment of iron overload in
patients with thalassemia, although their associated
side effects have resulted in limited patient
compliance. Novel iron chelating agents are being
developed to improve patient compliance during
chronic treatment. The purpose of this symposium is
to educate physicians about the risks and treatment
of iron overload.
