Orlando Information

Meeting Location

ASH’s registration, annual meeting sessions, and exhibits will be held in the West Building of the Orange County Convention Center, located at 9800 International Drive. The ASH shuttle buses will drop attendees off near the center of the building, outside West C Lobby. As you face the convention center from International Drive, ASH activities will be located in the right half (west end) of the building.

Weather

In December, temperatures in Orlando can range from 50 to 70°F (10-20°C), so you may wish to bring a light jacket. Winter months also tend to be sunny with a low chance of rain.

Attractions

Orlando’s mild, sunny weather provides the perfect backdrop for a number of outdoor activities, so if you’re looking for some fresh air and fun after time spent in the convention center, the following are some exciting options to choose from. For details, you can check with your hotel’s concierge desk, or visit the Web sites below. The Orlando Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Web site also offers information on activities in the area.

Theme Parks

For many, “Orlando” is synonymous with “Disney.” Covering nearly 50 square miles, the Walt Disney World Resort is a must-see for many families and includes several amusement parks and more than a dozen fantastically themed hotels. Another favorite is Universal Studios, a sprawling adventure park with a television and movie theme.

Gatorland

Florida is also known for its alligators, and, at Gatorland, you can get your fill of the fearsome reptiles. The wildlife park features thousands of them, as well a bird sanctuary and snake exhibits.

Kennedy Space Center

About 45 minutes from Orlando, the Kennedy Space Center provides a unique glimpse into the U.S. space program, including tours of the launch area, eye-opening displays of gigantic rockets, and the opportunity to train in spaceflight simulators and meet NASA astronauts.

Discovery Cove

Although Orlando is located in the heart of Florida, you can still find soft, sandy beaches and warm water at Discovery Cove. This wildlife water park provides opportunities to relax in the sun, or the more adventurous can snorkel with tropical fish, swim with dolphins, or hand-feed exotic birds. Fun-seekers should note that reservations are required in advance for this park.

Leu Gardens

Minutes from downtown Orlando, the Harry P. Leu Gardens provide a relaxing refuge from the city. The 50-acre botanical park features winding footpaths, a historic museum, and more than a dozen themed gardens, including a butterfly garden.

SeaWorld

Seeking a thrill? SeaWorld provides adventure enthusiasts with sea-themed roller coasters and shark-diving encounters, as well as animal exhibits and performances.
