I. HISTORY

PATIENT PRESENTATION

A 50-year-old man presents with a two-month history of fatigue and early satiety. His complete blood count shows the following:

WBC

75 x 109/L (normal range: 4-10 x 109/L)

Hgb

14 gm/dL (normal range: 14-16.5 gm/dL)

Hct

42% (normal range: 42%-50%)

MCV

88 fl (normal range: 80-96 fl)

Platelets

550 x 109/L (normal range: 150-400 x 109/L)

Differential:

Segmented neutrophils (granulocytes)

33 x 109/L (normal range: 1.8-7.0 x 109/L) 

Bands

15 x 109/L (normal range: 0-0.7 x 109/L)

Metamyelocytes

11 x 109/L (normal: 0)

Myelocytes

7.5 x 109/L (normal: 0)

Basophils

3.75 x 109/L (normal range: 0-0.2 x 109/L)

Lymphocytes

3 x 109/L (normal range 1.0-4.8 x 109/L)

Monocytes

0.75 x 109/L (normal range 0-0.8 x 109/L)

Granulocytosis
Anemia
