The myeloproliferative disorders

Essential thrombocythemia is a clonal, hematopoietic stem cell disorder characterized by marked thrombocytosis, platelet dysfunction and an increased risk of thrombosis and bleeding. Granulocytosis and splenomegaly may be present as well. Erythromelalgia, a unique manifestation of this disease, results from thrombosis of digital arteries and is characterized by redness and burning pain in the extremities. ET rarely progresses to acute leukemia.
