Blood recently introduced a new publication category
with “e-Blood.” Over the past several years, the explosion of new
technology platforms allowing high-throughput generation and analyses
of gene or protein expression or sequence analyses on large sample sets
has resulted in a marked increase in the submission of papers
containing high-quality, validated data that are
“hypothesis-generating” but are not yet developed into a complete
biologic or clinical story. In the past, these papers have routinely
been rejected, often without review. However, realizing that these
datasets and a full description of methodology for data generation and
analysis could be of high interest and utility for hematology
researchers, Blood has launched this new category of papers,
fully peer-reviewed and edited, for publication in Blood. These papers
will be available online only. We feel that this new category of
scientific work, to be published in the electronic version of the
journal, will support the more rapid utilization of well-developed data
by many groups and will facilitate more rapid advances in the field of
hematology.
