Hematology Fellows and Junior Faculty Participate in 2018 ASH Clinical Research Training Institute in Latin America

Published on: April 24, 2018

(WASHINGTON, April 24, 2018) — The American Society of Hematology (ASH) has announced the names of the 35 hematologists participating in the 2018 ASH Clinical Research Training Institute in Latin America (CRTI-LA) and Advanced CRTI-LA. This education and mentorship program will be held between April 23 and 26 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, prior to the Society’s Highlights of ASH in Latin America meeting.

CRTI-LA is a two-day program designed to prepare hematology fellows and junior faculty members working in Latin America for careers in clinical research. During that time, ASH member experts from around the world will introduce participants to the fundamentals of clinical trial design through educational sessions on topics such as biostatistics, developing clinical research questions, and writing an abstract and manuscript for publication.

Advanced CRTI-LA is a one-and-a-half-day workshop that provides ongoing training and mentorship for graduates of CRTI-LA. It focuses on continuing to educate and strengthen the clinical trial design and execution skills gained from previous participation in CRTI-LA.

“This program provides trainees in Latin America with a unique opportunity to learn best practices in clinical trial design that they can take away and apply to accelerating research in the region,” said ASH President Alexis Thompson, MD, MPH, of Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. “Supporting the careers of these talented fellows and junior faculty members, in this instance by guiding them from clinical trial design to implementation, is a priority for ASH.”
