Thanks to congressional action late New Year’s Day that delays the sequester for two months our members’ work to develop cures for some of America’s most deadly diseases will not be interrupted today. The Society is also pleased that Congress has prevented the scheduled 27 percent cut to physician payment.

Following the death of Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-HI) earlier this week, it is expected that Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), a strong supporter of NIH and other public health programs, will be appointed as the new chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee.
