CDC Announces Additional Grant Opportunity for State-Based Surveillance for Hemoglobinopathies

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a new grant program, State-Based Surveillance for Hemoglobinopathies (CDC-RFA-DD10-1017) to provide continued support in thalassemia and sickle cell disease surveillance. This opportunity is available to all states that are not currently receiving funds from DD09-909 – the Registry and Surveillance System in Hemoglobinopathies (RuSH) program funded by the CDC and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). The purpose of this program is to provide support through CDC cooperative agreements for non-research activities to collect and link data on selected samples of patients for population-based estimates. The program is a pilot and designed as a learning collaborative effort between states with a mixture of characteristics. The closing date for applications is May 14, 2010.
