ASH Shares Support of BCR-ABL1 Testing in Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

ASH has responded to two federal requests regarding BCR-ABL1 mutation testing in chronic myeloid leukemia. The Agency for Health Care Quality and Research (AHRQ) requested comment on a technology assessment: Pharmacogenomic Tests for Cancer Treatment Technology Assessment. ASH commented that there is compelling evidence that kinase domain mutations predict response to TKI therapy. In addition, the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee (MedCAC) requested testimony at its meeting on the same subject. ASH testimony stated that BCR-ABL1 testing is recognized in the hematologic community as being not only justified but necessary for candidates who are receiving imatinib and for monitoring during therapy. It is important for ASH to respond to these types of information requests because the AHRQ Technology Assessment and the MedCAC meeting may impact reimbursement for this test.
