ASH Weighs In on “Meaningful Use” of Electronic Health Records

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 provides for incentive payments to providers that “meaningfully use” electronic health records. ASH, along with 81 other national and local medical societies, submitted recommendations to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as to how “meaningful use” would be best defined for the purposes of such payments. The proposal aims to ensure that the final definition is set so as to encourage widespread adoption of electronic health records, as well as make federal incentives available to a broad spectrum of practicing physicians.
