ASH submitted comments to the National Heritage Insurance Corporation (NHIC), in response to the draft Local Coverage Determination (LCD) on Erythropoietin Analogs Unrelated to ESRD or Cancer. The LCD is open for public comment until July 31, 2009, and will cover states in the Jurisdiction 14 MAC region including Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont (for Part A, Part B, and RHHI). The policy will also cover Connecticut (RHHI only).
ASH is supportive of NHIC’s draft LCD as it is consistent with ASH's Model Policy: Indications for ESA Treatment for Patients with Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS). Members in the states listed above are strongly encouraged to send letters consistent with ASH's comments to NHIC as local physicians carry significant weight with local carriers and Medicare Administrative Contractors.
