ASH would like to receive member input as it develops a response to an NIH request
on whether the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) should
amend current regulations governing "Responsibility of Applicants for
Promoting Objectivity in Research for Which Public Health Service
Funding Is Sought" and on financial conflicts of interest. In
particular, NIH is seeking comments on expanding the scope of the
regulations and the scope of disclosure on whether the definition of
“Significant Financial Interest” should be amended, how conflicts
should be managed by institutions, how institutional compliance should
be assured, the information required to be submitted to the Public
Health Service, and institutional conflicts of interest.
ASH will be reviewing this issue and submitting comments in response
to NIH's request. All ASH members are encouraged to submit any
particular concerns or comments on this issue to ASH Scientific Affairs
Manager Ulyana Vjugina at uvjugina@hematology.org no later than June 28, 2009.
