March is DVT Awareness Month

March is Deep-Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month.

ASH continues to work with several advocacy coalitions and the Department of Health and Human Services on efforts to increase public awareness of DVT as a major public health problem. ASH has been very active in encouraging Congress to support the development of a national thrombosis surveillance system at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as well as to support funding at the National Institutes of Health, CDC, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and other federal agencies to enable research into prevention, treatment, and cures of DVT.

Watch recent ASH annual meeting speaker, Melanie Bloom - a national patient spokesperson for the Coalition to Prevent DVT and wife of the late NBC correspondent David Bloom - on the Today Show as she spreads the word about the multi-faceted campaign to promote DVT awareness.

Additionally, a non-binding resolution was just introduced in the House of Representatives promoting DVT Awareness Month.
