The Honorific Awards are the Society's most prestigious awards, recognizing significant contributions to the field of hematology made by individual ASH members. The deadline to nominate a colleague for a 2011 honorific award is Thursday, September 30, 2010. Completed nomination forms should be sent to Elisa Shea via e-mail at awards@hematology.org.

Wallace H. Coulter Award for Lifetime Achievement in Hematology
Presented for the first time in 2007, this award is named for Wallace Henry Coulter, a prolific inventor who made important contributions to hematology and to ASH. During his lifetime, Mr. Coulter was a strong supporter of ASH; to date, he is the only person to receive the American Society of Hematology Distinguished Service Award for his enormous contribution to the field of hematology. The Wallace H. Coulter Award for Lifetime Achievement in Hematology is bestowed on an individual who has demonstrated a lifetime commitment and outstanding contribution to hematology, and who has made a significant impact on education, research, and/or practice.
Ernest Beutler Lecture and Prize
Named for the late Dr. Ernest Beutler, past president of ASH and physician-scientist for more than 50 years, this two-part lectureship is intended to recognize major translational advances related to a single topic. ASH presents this award to two individuals, one who has enabled advances in basic science and one for achievements in clinical science or translational research.
William Dameshek Prize
This award is named for the late Dr. William Dameshek, a past president of the Society. Dr. Dameshek made major contributions to the Society and was the first editor of its journal, Blood. The Dameshek Prize is to be awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in hematology during the preceding years. The Society's Awards Committee recommends to the Executive Committee the William Dameshek Prize recipient.
Henry M. Stratton Medal
In 1992, this award was changed from the Henry M. Stratton Lecture to the Henry M. Stratton Medal. The prize is named after the late Henry Maurice Stratton, who made significant contributions to the Society and founded the medical publishing house of Grune and Stratton with Mr. L.H. Grunebaum. The Henry M. Stratton Medal is intended to honor an individual whose contributions to hematology are well recognized and have taken place over a period of several years. The Society's Awards Committee recommends to the Executive Committee the Henry M. Stratton Medal recipient.
E. Donnall Thomas Lecture and Prize
This lectureship was created in 1992 and named after the Nobel Prize laureate and past society president E. Donnall Thomas. The E. Donnall Thomas Lecture and Prize is intended to recognize pioneering research achievements in hematology. The Society's Awards Committee recommends to the Executive Committee the E.
