Funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is in serious jeopardy, and we know our members are already being affected by current and looming budget cuts. In addition, because the Congress was unable to reach agreement on how to reduce the deficit by March 1, President Obama issued an order implementing the automatic, across-the-board spending cuts known as "sequestration." How is this affecting you? Perhaps you have been denied an NIH grant despite a good score, or you're wondering whether you will be able to continue your successful career in biomedical research given all of the budgetary uncertainty. Maybe you're concerned about having to downsize your lab due to impending cuts, or are in an extraordinary amount of debt from your training.

Whatever your circumstances, ASH needs your story. It is critical that Congress, members of the media, and other key stakeholders hear from ASH about the impact that inadequate NIH funding has on individuals involved in hematology research and patients with blood diseases. We need your personal stories to convince Congress of the need to take a balanced approach to reducing the deficit that doesn't further cut NIH and other core federal programs.

Have a story to tell about how NIH funding affects your career, and your concerns about upcoming cuts to NIH funding for hematology research? Please share it with ASH now. We need your stories to fight for hematology funding!
