Editorial Assistant - New Submissions

ASH seeks seeks an energetic and highly professional Editorial Assistant – New Submissions to coordinate all aspects of online manuscript submission to Blood, the official journal of the Society. The candidate selected for this position will have a wide range of responsibilities, including evaluating manuscripts for compliance with technical guidelines and policies, maintaining and updating the online manuscript tracking system, and providing technical support to authors. This position is also responsible for fielding and responding to emails in the Editorial and Publishing inboxes and will also receive calls on the main Editorial line. The individual chosen for this position will report to the Peer Review Manager.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in English, science, or a related field, and at least one year of editorial experience, preferably with online manuscript peer-review systems. Candidates with a high level of computer literacy and experience with HTML are preferred. Qualified candidates must have excellent organizational skills, the ability to successfully navigate a fast-paced environment, and the ability to meet deadlines. Strong communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to work constructively with editors, medical researchers, authors, and reviewers are also essential.

Controller

ASH seeks a Controller. This role is responsible for overseeing the Society’s day-to-day finance and accounting activities and ensuring that all activities are managed in compliance with regulations, policies, procedures, financial strategy, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and meet the requirements of ASH funders and sponsors. This management position oversees all financial and accounting functions to ensure compliance with regulations, as well as with internal policies and procedures. This role also ensures that the organization operates within budget and manages the allocation of shared budget items among ASH departments and programs in conjunction with the organizational operating budget.

The Controller is also responsible for cash flow management and reporting (i.e., managing and maintaining requirements, developing a reliable project and reporting mechanism, maximizing the leverage of banking relationships, and initiating appropriate strategies to enhance the cash position), and will work closely with the Senior Manager, Information Technology to develop tools and/or recommend and purchase and implement technology that provides critical financial and operational information. Additionally, this role will ensure that ASH business leaders have the financial information needed to make informed decisions and will review all financial reports, tax returns, and audit reports.

Qualified candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in finance, financial accounting, or a related field and evidence of at least seven years of public accounting experience, or experience as a senior accountant or other senior finance professional at a membership organization or other non-profit. CPA required. This position requires hands-on strategic thinking and the ability to manage and mentor staff and review the work of others, prioritize competing deadlines, and effectively communicate and present financial information to others. Candidates must possess technology savvy, with experience selecting software, and have advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software with the ability to anticipate the infrastructure and systems needs in a complex, national nonprofit. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to develop and manage collaborative business relationships, both internally and externally, are required. Experience with Solomon and association management software preferred. Excellent communication skills and team building abilities are essential.

Marketing Manager

ASH seeks a Marketing Manager to develop and oversee an integrated marketing strategy for the organization. As part of the Communications Department, the Marketing Manager will ensure that the Society’s key messages are disseminated through the appropriate channels. The Marketing Manager will work closely with the senior staff to develop and implement appropriate marketing plans for the Society’s products and services, as well as targeted membership recruitment and retention campaigns. Other responsibilities include conducting market research, analyzing the effects of pricing, distribution, and product performance on sales, providing cost analyses and budget recommendations, and working with a creative team to produce high-quality marketing materials.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing or a related field, at least five years of work experience in the marketing field showing a progression in level of responsibility, and excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, project management, and business writing skills. Previous experience with a professional medical society or non-profit organization is preferred.

Manager of Applications Development

ASH seeks a Manager of Applications Development who will be responsible for the technical development and maintenance of ASH’s web and mobile based technologies. The Manager of Applications Development will oversee site development, modifications, and migration and assist in all aspects of web and mobile based technology issue resolution.

The ASH Manager of Applications Development will be well versed in contemporary coding standards and conventions and demonstrate functional knowledge of relational databases and how they interact with web based technologies. The Manager of Applications Development will exercise independent judgment on assigned activities under broad policy guidelines. This role provides ongoing development, maintenance, and migration/upgrades of web and mobile applications, working closely with the Web Manager to ensure that all projects fully meet requirements.

Minimum qualifications for this position include a degree in Information Technology or a related field with 5-7 years of overall information technology experience, with 3 – 5 years of that experience in enterprise/web application development. The candidate must also:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the .NET Platform to troubleshoot issues related to deployment, unit testing, and performance testing;
  • Demonstrate understanding of the SQL Server Database platform for supporting multiple product lines and environments;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Object Oriented methodologies and architectures (.Net 2.0, 3.5); and
  • Have an excellent understanding of VB.Net or C#, SQL Server 2008, ASP.Net, Javascript, JQuery, and AJAX.

Experience with Personify web services and DNN platform, as well as experience with mobile application development is preferred.
